Joanna, or Fang as she is known in the studio, is Alchemy Post Sound’s Foley artist. Fang has performed Foley on countless documentaries, television shows, interactive media, and feature length films.
An alumni of NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, Joanna studied every facet of filmmaking and post production under sound editor Marsha Moore McKeever, production mixer Chat Gunter, cinematographer Gordon Arkenberg, and screenwriter Daniel Stiepleman. She fell in love with Foley during her time at NYU and after graduating with honors in 2013, immediately began apprenticing under lead Foley artist Leslie Bloome. Through her Foley sounds, she has had the privilege of making pasta for Aziz Ansari, chewing gum for Casey Affleck, chugging beers with Nick Jonas, popping pills for Nurse Jackie, combating Mexican drug cartels, and crashing a bus for Ira Glass.
In 2016, she became the first openly transgender woman to win a Primetime Emmy for her work on A&E’s Cartel Land. When she’s not in the studio, she can found writing poetry, playing her Telecasters, or advocating for transgender rights.
